Stayed for a week in this tranquil site. Our car broke down on the M6 so arrived on recovery truck, the owner was so helpful and towed our van onto our pitch. We had taken our bikes and have to say the area was excellent as hardly any traffic and superb cycling routes with outstanding scenery. The site has everything and more and shall be returning hopefully not on a recovery truck !

Just returned from three nights at this wonderful site which is more or less on our doorstep. Peaceful and totally relaxing. Toilets and showers an experience not to miss. I felt like I was appearing in a “Carry on Film”. Do not be put off by that comment , it is made with an appreciation of the owner’s sense of fun and hard work. Met John who was very friendly but unfortunately did not meet Dawn. Ah well will just have to visit again to meet her !!!

ive just returned from this wonderful site,its excelent, from the peace the people, i loved the writing that there is no strangers just people you haven't met yet,its very well kept, i loved the shower,you were left alone,
but there was always someone around if you wanted someone, ive been to quite a few adult sites and this was 1 of the best, i will be rebooking, thank you for a pleasent stay, thank you

We have had a great time over the bank holiday and this is by far the best site we have stayed on. Don’t let the rustic looking toilets and shower worry you, they are great, really clean, well designed and feel cosy and private. The site is immaculately kept and is a great layout with everyone having a private little section. You can see a lot of thought and care has gone into everything, even down to the little signs on each bay that tell you the best way to site the caravan. Location is great as it’s away from the hustle of the major tourist centres but easy to get to and a quick drive into Keswick on beautifull country roads. can’t recomend this site enough and can’t wait to come back.

We've been home now for a couple of weeks and are still missing the tranquillity and beauty of this site. One of the best CL's we stayed on we will certainly return. I would describe the toilets as "rustic" and unique but dry, warm and very clean.

Sadly we had to leave Riverside early this week due to the Beast from the East arriving on Tuesday morning 27th February 18.The site is spotless well maintained and great value for money. I agree with everyone saying the toilet and showers are quirky but efficient.
We have been holidaying in the lakes every February for many years and this site is one of the gems of the Northern Fells. The route out to the M6 wasn't gritted so 24 hours later we would have been stranded. There is wi fi but a very weak signal which may have been down to our service provider. Again many thanks for our stay and we will be back.

Found this site when I googled "Best CL sites", how lucky we are. We cancelled a CMC site to come here as we liked the look and sound of this site in the web.
We live it, been touring for years and have seen the good and the bad, but this is one of the best.

We have just returned home from a nine night stay at Riverside. We were met by John a lot later than we had envisaged due to a 'blow out' on the motorway. He had prewarned us about the temporary road closure - for which we were grateful - and helped us to site the van on a lovely pitch overlooking the green. We could hear the gentle sound of the stream and enjoyed putting monkey nuts out for the red squirrels. The toilet and shower was a topic of conversation, the toilet also being utilised as a library and information office!! The site is just over a mile away from Heskett Newmarket where there is a shop, post office and wonderful pub called The Crown. If you are looking for a quite and relaxing break this is definitely the place go go.

We have just returned home from an absolutely wonderful week at this beautiful site. It was so peaceful and the abundance of wildlife made for a wonderful stay. John was so welcoming and was there to meet us even though we were so late arriving as we broke down on the M6 and had to be towed to the site. He positioned our caravan for us which we were so grateful for as we had been on the road since 7am. We loved our holiday and will definitely be returning and would recommend this site wholeheartedly.

Just returned from a wonderful 3 night break from this gem of a caravan park. JOHN the owner was so friendly and helpful and the park is immaculately kept. Anyone wanting a tranquil holiday in beautiful surroundings them this is the place to be. Enjoyed some lovely walks to the nearby villages of Hesket Newmarket, with a lovely community owned pub and a shop/ tearoom. Then onto Caldbeck following the footpath along the river Caldbeck and beauty spot called riversmeeting, and onto Caldbeck Village with lots of craft shops tea rooms and pub. What a lovely break we had. Definitely will return to this gorgeous park.

Stayed at Riverside over the May Bank holiday weekend and what a delightful site. We were pitched in the CC CL, 5 spacious pitches, with beautiful views over to the fells. The site is so tranquil and the grounds immaculate. Lovely walks in the area and lovely pubs at nearby Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket. Quirky toilet and shower, both do the job admirably. Owner very helpful and went out of his way to help us when our caravan electrics were playing up. Thank you for a lovely weekend. We will be back.

Just spent 8 nights at this great site in our Motorhome. It was a lovely site in a quiet rural setting and one of the very few that is open all year. The hard standing pitch was a really good size and nice and level. The site was very well kept, clean and tidy. The toilet and shower was little treat, as others have said you will be pleasantly surprised by them, stay there and see for yourself. We will definately be returning to your site again, many thanks.

Just like to say we have a fantastic Christmas and New Year break at Riverside. 2016/2017 The site is very well kept in a beautifully area. We enjoyed lovely walks to Hesket New Market and Caldbeck sampling the local beers! our little dog was welcome too.
We loved our secret gate from pitch 3 and loved the secluded pitches.

Further to my earlier comment x i wpuld like to add that this is really a lovely quiet site well presented just whats needed for a getaway x
We used itas a base to do our walking but were equally happy with just staying on site.
You receive a warm welcome from the owner John and you can clearly see he takes pride in his little site.
The site fees are good especially as they include electric and hookup.
We would definitly return possibly in the warm months although we would stay without hesitation over the new year again. The pitches are well protected and sheltered by the trees that John himself planted when he first opened the site.
The shower facilities may not be everyones cup of tea but they are cute warm hot and powerful. If people want 5* facilities then they should stay in 5* hotels and then possibly miss out on the beauty and nature of the countryside.

We stayed recently in our caravan over Christmas, and although the weather was bad when we first arrived, the site was very pleasant and well cared for. We very much enjoyed the peace and quiet, and would recommend it to others. The only thing we would say, is make sure your caravan has a motor-mover to help position it. Ours hasn't, which made it difficult for us getting on and off the pitch.

Stopping at Riverside for the first time and we've been really happy with this small site. The shower and toilet sheds are very homely and the waste and water areas have got some brilliant little touches that emptying cassettes and wastemasters so easy. We haven't used the WiFi as my own 4g signal was excellent but at a pound a day it's great value. This could easily become our favourite weekend get away.

We are enjoying yet another wonderful and peaceful break at Riverside. Once again John and Dawn reserved us our usual pitch in the Millrace, fantastic for us as our caravan is a German Hobby not UK. Ergo door on the wrong side for British sites and the van has to be put on the pitch with the drawbar in the opposite direction. It is so easy for us on the pitch, no awkward manoeuvring required. We have two cats which walk on leads as you can see on the pet page of this website and thanks to site rules, and responsible dog owners, who all seem attracted to this site, we never have any problems.
Whilst there has been a small increase in site fees since our last visit, we still find this one of the cheapest touring sites for us given the size of our outfit and the fact we have walking cats. Well done John and Dawn, long may you continue. Needless to say, we will be back.
If you are in Penrith and fancy afternoon tea, we can strongly recommend the Blue Rosé tearoom - near B & M not far from bus station car park. Absolutely wonderful value for money and had to get a doggie bag to take our cakes away as we could not eat it all.

We found this site on the way back from touring Scotland last week and needed to stop off for one night, but when we got on site we couldn't believe how lovely it was and decided to have 2 nights there. It is so peaceful and calming, with the water rippling by and all the different birds making an appearance. We saw a red squirrel (first time in my life I had seen one!). We will definitely make the effort to stay here again.

Love this site! Stayed three nights over the May bank holiday. The site is so peaceful and well looked after, owner is very helpful (even sited the van for us due to my hopeless reversing.

Stayed at Riverside over the May Bank holiday weekend and what a delightful site. We were pitched in the CC CL, 5 spacious pitches, with beautiful views over to the fells. The site is so tranquil and the grounds immaculate. Lovely walks in the area and lovely pubs at nearby Caldbeck and Hesket Newmarket. Quirky toilet and shower, both do the job admirably. Owner very helpful and went out of his way to help us when our caravan electrics were playing up. Thank you for a lovely weekend. We will be back.

We are New to the caravaning and still working things out. We liked this site and the layout. Very well kept, nice and peaceful. Small site with everything you need. Lots of little notes and guidance around the site. Some good walks in the area and a pub 1.5 miles away.

Just spent 8 nights at this great site in our Motorhome. It was a lovely site in a quiet rural setting and one of the very few that is open all year. The hard standing pitch was a really good size and nice and level. The site was very well kept, clean and tidy. The toilet and shower was little treat, as others have said you will be pleasantly surprised by them, stay there and see for yourself. We will definately be returning to your site again, many thanks.

Just like to say we have a fantastic Christmas and New Year break at Riverside. 2016/2017 The site is very well kept in a beautifully area. We enjoyed lovely walks to Hesket New Market and Caldbeck sampling the local beers! our little dog was welcome too.
We loved our secret gate from pitch 3 and loved the secluded pitches.
We will be back soon x

Further to my earlier comment x i wpuld like to add that this is really a lovely quiet site well presented just whats needed for a getaway x
We used itas a base to do our walking but were equally happy with just staying on site.
You receive a warm welcome from the owner John and you can clearly see he takes pride in his little site.
The site fees are good especially as they include electric and hookup.
We would definitly return possibly in the warm months although we would stay without hesitation over the new year again. The pitches are well protected and sheltered by the trees that John himself planted when he first opened the site.
The shower facilities may not be everyones cup of tea but they are cute warm hot and powerful. If people want 5* facilities then they should stay in 5* hotels and then possibly miss out on the beauty and nature of the countryside.
I loved the place xxx

We stayed recently in our caravan over Christmas, and although the weather was bad when we first arrived, the site was very pleasant and well cared for. We very much enjoyed the peace and quiet, and would recommend it to others. The only thing we would say, is make sure your caravan has a motor-mover to help position it. Ours hasn't, which made it difficult for us getting on and off the pitch.
Sorry you found the pitching a problem Maria. I would have been only too glad to have done the manoeuvreing bit for you if you had just allowed me behind the wheel. John.

Stopping at Riverside for the first time and we've been really happy with this small site. The shower and toilet sheds are very homely and the waste and water areas have got some brilliant little touches that emptying cassettes and wastemasters so easy. We haven't used the WiFi as my own 4g signal was excellent but at a pound a day it's great value. This could easily become our favourite weekend get away.

We are enjoying yet another wonderful and peaceful break at Riverside. Once again John and Dawn reserved us our usual pitch in the Millrace, fantastic for us as our caravan is a German Hobby not UK. Ergo door on the wrong side for British sites and the van has to be put on the pitch with the drawbar in the opposite direction. It is so easy for us on the pitch, no awkward manoeuvring required. We have two cats which walk on leads as you can see on the pet page of this website and thanks to site rules, and responsible dog owners, who all seem attracted to this site, we never have any problems.
Whilst there has been a small increase in site fees since our last visit, we still find this one of the cheapest touring sites for us given the size of our outfit and the fact we have walking cats. Well done John and Dawn, long may you continue. Needless to say, we will be back.
If you are in Penrith and fancy afternoon tea, we can strongly recommend the Blue Rosé tearoom - near B & M not far from bus station car park. Absolutely wonderful value for money and had to get a doggie bag to take our cakes away as we could not eat it all.

Stopped for a couple of days to try out our new motorhome 2/9/16. Found the site very clean/tidy and well maintained with no issues during our stay. Will definitely be back with the bikes next time and spend to bit longer enjoying the local area.

Just returned from a peaceful weekend at Riverside. The site and the instructions are just superb. Pitch number 6 is a challenge for a twin axle to negotiate but with the watchful eye of John the helpful owner is was done. Well done to "him indoors". Riverside is in an ideal spot for visiting the many beauty spots in the Lake District and exploring the lovely quiet villages calling in at the quaint tea rooms. We would definitely recommend the tea rooms at Buttermere, the hot scones with cream and jam were so tasty and their friendly collie (Max) took a shine to our Chocolate Labrador Heidi.

A truly lovely setting, with the unique toilets and showers. Have just left there after 6 nights. Peaceful and lovely relaxed atmosphere. My only negative point, would it be possible for a small light to put near the toilet on Millrace as very dark at midnight !
Thanks Rachel for pointing out that the bulb had gone in the external light. It's been promptly sorted. You can now come back to enjoy the reinstated dusk-to-dawn external lighting in the service area.

The pitches are generous and well spaced with lots of grassy areas and views of the river. The cycling from the site is fantastic, miles of almost traffic free with good off road sections. Loved it. So sad, we're going home today after a lovely 6 nights stay at Riverside. We would definitely recommend this lovely clean, tidy and friendly site. Riverside is in an ideal spot for visiting the many beauty spots in the Lake District and exploring the lovely quiet villages calling in at the quaint tea rooms. We have just returned home from a six night visit to John and Dawns wonderful site. John was there as soon as we arrived to welcome us and showed us to our pitch. The site is exactly as advertised. Incredibly easy to get to towing a caravan. Very peaceful beautiful, clean site. The toilet and showers are clean and very pleasant for use. Everyone on the site was friendly. Just down the road is The Old Crown, the UKs first co operatively owned pub. Well worth a visit for the food and the beer. The welcome in this area is so much friendlier than the South Lakes. We will definitely be back.

Thank you for a fantastic one night stay. We stopped here overnight to break our journey, but now we are planning to come back so we can stay longer! Welcoming owners and friendly small site, the quirky loo and shower made us smile was clean and well equipped. We are members of the CL club but this section was full so we stopped in the Millrace section, we are so glad we did, the pitches are screened with hedging for privacy and spacious and in my opinion better than the CL pitches. We will be back later in the year for a longer break. Thank you again for a wonderful, peaceful, friendly site.

We've just returned from another stunning 6 nights on your pretty much perfect site and just wanted to say thank you! There was an individual who on our first night thought everyone else might like to enjoy his music choices while he barbecued. I was going to "have a word", but my other half advised me not to as she knows what I can be like, but I think you may have done the honours anyway as he didn't do it the following evening and left the day after that, (happy days!).
So peaceful and tranquil, the evenings sitting out and reading were an absolute delight. You had said a month or 2 ago that you'd booked the good weather for us and you didn't disappoint, thanks for that also! We did Carrock fell circuit again and could actually see where we were going this time. We also did Bannerdale Crags, and on Thursday I rowed the missus across Derwent Water, (remind me to book them slimming world classes!!). We also saw the red squirrels every day, and that was a first for us, we'd not seen them on our 2 previous visits.
Perfect stay, (apart from that geezer on the first night), and we'll definitely return again, (and again and again). Great site, great location, brilliant facilities, can't fault it, thank you for creating one of our favourite sites. I'd recommend it to anyone and will be posting another positive review on ukcampsite.

We arrived on this beautiful motorhome park on my wifes birthday and stayed for 2 nights. We got to explore most of the glorious scenery and lakes in the area and the weather was sweet for the time of year. We were the only campers there and were made to feel very welcome with our names on the entrance to the park.
i have to say it was a privalage to use the most
warmest,clean and nicest looking outside wooded toilet too. Our dog loved the area and couldnt keep him out of the lakes.

I stayed at the riverside which was supposed to be 2 nights but received an unexpected text from work colleagues. Lovely clean and peaceful site with plenty of rolling fields and hills to roam freely with my 2 border terriers. Only noise is the trickling of the beck a few metres away which is great for washing dogs paws before allowing them back in the caravan. Loos and showers were great with plenty of recycling options too. My visit was 13th-15th February 2016 but due to work commitments could only stay the 1 night. Obviously this time of year it's freezing especially up there but this is Cumbria in winter. Mobile reception a bit hit and miss but TV channels are perfect due to being close to Caldbeck. Would use again for sure.

We stayed at Riverside for four nights 30th Dec to 2nd Jan 2016. We parked our motorhome looking out at the river it was lovely the river was a bit lively due to the rain in the area but the site was not affected. What a lovely relaxing break we had will definitely be back! John thank you for the aerial view photo you took of our motorhome! If you like the lakes you will love it and even the unusual toilet and shower. We should not be saying all this as we want space for us to go!

We are really glad we chose to stay at Riverside, as the site really did tick all the boxes. It's quite a few years since we've been up to the Lake District, and found this site within easy reach of every where we wanted to visit, yet so relaxing, and maintained to a very high standard. Everyone was so friendly. The site has a good WiFi internet access facillity which was a definate benifit to us during our stay. The TV reception is brilliant too. Many thanks John & Dawn. When we come back up to the Lakes we hope you'll have space for us.

Hi john me and wife would just like to say what a fantastic caravan park you have its a gem of a site and we loved every minute of being there we have to say its the best park we have stayed on in 26 years of touring and we will be coming back next year and staying longer keep the great work up thanking you all for a great HOLLIDAY les and dot littler

Been going to riverside now for about 10-15 years, and it never fails to delight us, the peace and quiet of the area is fantastic, enhanced by the meandering river which runs along the side of the well manicured and maintained site,thanks to John and Dawn Bell, who do a fantastic job of looking after the place.10 out of 10 from us, so looking forward to our next visit.

We love to continue caravaning through the winter months, therefore we are pleased to have made the discovery of Riverside. It ticks the boxes for us. Perfectly situated for walking the fells. Sheltered and pictureque location by the river. What more would you need. You will be seeing a lot more of us.

WE DO HAVE TO WONDER WHY THE MANY SO-CALLED "PUB STOPOVERS" ARE BEING ALLOWED TO USE THEIR CAR PARKS AS AN OVERNIGHT STAY for Motor homes.
Approved Sites have to adhere to stringent spacing, health/safety/sanitary rules.
The Pub Car parks have NON of these stringent spacing, safety and sanitary measures in place.
"Nor do they undergo any form of inspection by any authority".
Important:
Please note, we have "NO" Charging points for "Electrically Powered Vehicles".
(But we "DO" have 10amp Electric Hookups on all Pitches)

A (quite unique) well appraised Free Shower and Toilet is available to all site users
CANCELLATIONS,
I will accept your booking, (without taking a deposit) in good faith that you are making a commitment to the arrival and departure dates you have stated to me when placing the booking. You will be liable to a charge for the full duration of your pre-booked stay if it is canceled in part or full without sufficient warning within the 7 days prior to your scheduled arrival, or during your stay.
NO SHOWS,
Un-loyal clients who pre-book but just don't turn up on the Scheduled day of arrival without any form of notification will be logged into a register, and may find it difficult to place a future booking on our site, or any neighboring sites.

Pitch Allocation
On Arrival, it is important that you read the pitching instruction signage on the welcome board just outside the main entrance, and on your allotted pitch.
A suitable pitch according to the size of your unit will be allocated for you.
On the day of your arrival an allocated pitch number will be displayed alongside your name on the welcome board just outside the main entrance. Also a reserved sign will be placed on your allocated pitch bearing your name.
